what do you guys think the reason for it. I weighted other cent to make sure my scale was not off. post 1983 all weight 2.5 and 3.1 g on prior to 1982.

.2 grams is within mint tolerances. Sorry, but there will be some very minor discrepancies in weight from time to time.

Mint tolerance is actually +/- 0.13g

There are several slightly overweight cents from 1983. Unless they are 95% Copper weighing in at 3.0g or more, they aren't worth more than face value.

I run across a few now and then that tip the scale at 2.7g.
The US mint doesn't make it's own cent planchets anymore, this could be why they vary so much on newer cents.
