Without any doubt, the Aussie circulating dollar is the most collected coin by Aussie decimal collectors. Whilst most of us take this coin for granted, we have other members here wo would not have seen one. This thread is to showcase to other members here all the various circulating dollars we have. I would need help from other Aussie collectors to finish this thread as we go through all the various dollars minted so far. Right the first one in proof condition... Issued in 1984. Mintage: 185,985,000 (normal circulating issue) Mintage: 538,358 (issued in bubble packs) Mintage: 159,340 proofs. Metal composition: 92% copper, 8% Alluminium Size: 25mm Weight: 9 grams Designer: Obverse: Arnold Machin Reverse: Stuart Devlin

This is the part you will love Australia went to decimal currency in 1966 but did not issue a dollar coin until 1984So unlike the UK or the USA you do not have hundreds of years to catch up on just 20 or so The roos are the circulating coin and then there are all the commeratives. Once you get your Maccas- you will enjoy The current 1984 Roo in Proof is selling for and this is not a typo$AU 6.00 the 1985- 98 will cost about AU$ 6 to 25 in proof the 2000 is $50 and the 2001 is $60 Most of the rest of the commeratives dollars cost out for less than $60 with one or two around 65+ and a few around $95 and there are 2 that sell for $750.00 Even at these prices - it is less costly than collecting morgans and they are easier to obtain.

The intention of this thread is to go through each roo from 1984 to the present day and then the commemoratives. As RG says, 1984 to now is not a lot to collect and they are certainly affordable to any collector. Be aware that some of these roos and commemmorative circulating dollars are also minted in silver. I will post scans of them as we progress along.

I have checked ebay this morning for proof Roos and found NOT a one of them. Guess I will have to check the Australian ebay? Hmmm, 1984 to now, that makes only 21? Is that correct? And, seeing how I don't have a guidebook, did they make them in proof every year (with the mob of Roos on them?) I will also have to check with Dansco to see if they make an album for these critters!

The mob of roos was issued from 1984 to 2001 and we have been seeing commeratives ever since

That makes sense as I have uncirculated dollars from 2002 to the present but did not know if they issued the regular dollar as well during those years. So now the number has grown smaller! This could be fun!

I was placing an order for the Guide book and the 1c, 2c when I saw the part he's on vacation till 8/1/06 and it took me a while to figure out how a person can be on vacation for 8 months!! I didn't have a problem reading 24/12/05 maybe because its such a familiar date and my mind is playing games with me.

Terry The regular Mob of Roos were not minted in 1986, 1988, 1992,1993,1996,1997, 2001,2002,2003,2004 & 2005. That narrows the field down even more....

I am not aware of any dedicated albums made for the 1 & 2 cent coins. The Danso ones are pushed in types and personally I do not like them as the coins are not sealed off and will be exposed for toning etc. I keep all my decimal coins in optima 2 X 2 coin holders and the mount them into albums. For the scare/key coins I keep them in coin capsules.

hello terry you can get most of these coins you need on australian ebay but most seller do not have many listing over the xmas new year period , around mid january the listings will increase and you may even be able to purchase a few items from the same seller and save on postage and with the US dollar being stronger than ours it wont cost that much BTW since we got you started on the dollars how about the beautiful 50 cent pieces
