I've been trying to get my hands on a 2008 Hawaii proof 70 silver quarter but the prices seem to be going through the roof on this one and I can't figure out why. e-bay has a clad listed and the bid stands at $206.00 or so. Its a PCGS "flags" holder. is it the holder that's special (like a black label or first issue label?.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, A.

Why do you want a 70 so bad? Why not just buy the whole quarter silver proof set for $25.95? The sets are still being produced and will be on sale for a while so there are still plenty of 70s out there. There is absolutely nothing special about having a flag on the holder, just something that the submitter requested.

hmmmmm........methinks the special "Flag", "Black", or "first Issue".....is worth about Two Cents. The "first issue" thing is complete hype and not even accurate. It's used by coin companies to get more money for whatever they're selling. In my opinion, the term "first issue" is a "condition" of the first few dozen or couple hundred that are struck on the planchets...also keep in mind that that process is repeated throughout the year with new planchets until the U.S. Mint's mintage number has been fullfilled so ..."any" nice proof coin is a first issue really.........and you could then "technically" have "first issue" coins throughout the whole year !!.... So,IF you can get a pcgs slabbed 70 silver quarter or Dcam or something, that's fine, and certainly attainable, but I certainly wouldn't pay those prices you've mentioned for one......uhh uhhhh.....

PR-70 thats a grade that has boomed over pass 8-10 yrs. So ether the mint is minting perfection or is the TPG's interest's to grade a few more PR&MS-70

My own Two Cents, I think the TPG's are taking a lead from the US Mint with all the "blue label" "black label" "brown label" ad infinitum. I think one of the coolest things to come out are the TPG graded AUTOGRAPHED series!

HOLLYWOOD....... Quote: The last year of the State Quarters in proof/silver proof graded are spikeing in price, because there trying to make as much cash as they can before the hype is all over with Yep......that's true with every coin company including the Mint!!... And, of course, once the "hype" is gone......the value is soon to follow. Most of the values will level off and go down on everything to do with the 50 State Quarter Program......the 1999 Silver Proof Set has already shown that. But there will probably be a spike in these values when the program completes.......including after the U.S. Territory Quarters.....because whole complete sets will be available and sought after......but a couple few years after it's over......I bet you'll see a fairly sizable amount of their value drop......it'll just follow the demand......the new Moderns just won't/can't have the same kind of "staying power" as Classics in comparison....and even some of them go up and down too.
