Hi everyone, I am very new to coin collecting so please forgive any mistakes in proper description. I have come to possess a dollar bill that was only printed on one side, my sister took it to the bank thinking it to be a counterfeit reproduction but the bank manager came over and they tested it and found it was a real dollar bill. Does anyone know if like so many other currencies that have errors on them become collectors items, would this be worth anything to a collector? I would think it would be worth allot being in very good to excellent condition. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you all and happy collecting to you, Mike

If you indeed have an authentic dollar bill that was only printed on one side, yes, it is very valuable and very rare.

I sure hope that bank manager didn't use one of those pens on it- a mark like that would certainly devalue it a bit.

This error is caused by the dollar missing a key stage of the printing line for some reason or another. They are a very good error to find and can find prices going up to $1000+. (Conservatively)
And it would be helpful to specify which side was not printed, and the year of the bill (if possible). If your bill is missing the front, that that would be an outstanding find.

Hi folks, I just would like to say thank you all for your help and comments on this matter, I have inclosed two pictures of the bill mentioned. Any idea where to find someone who might be interested in purchasing such a bill, anyone? The series date is 1995 Thank you all very much for your help, Mike

Very interesting. I definitely see the printing of the reverse but it's so faded.
I'm not an expert, so I will patiently wait for one of the many experts on this board to comment.
Cheers for the pics though!

Hmmm, the printing is not completely missing but it does not look like an under inking issue either. This bill might have been bleached but it would probably have to be inspected in hand by someone knowledgeable to determine that.

Yeah my first guess would have been bleaching. There's an odd sort of brownish discoloration towards the top of the note.
Could be a side effect of some sort of chemical?
I'm not sure the reason someone would do it though...

The pictures of the back are not detailed enough to give a 100% sure opinion of bleaching or insufficeint ink.

hello again folks, Bleaching did also cross my mind but would it not bleed through and also leave traces of bleaching on the front side of the bill?
Thanks, Mike

I doubt it's any type of printing error. If the press was low on ink it wouldn't be so uniform across the entire bill one would think I assume it's possible the lightly bleach one side without it bleeding thru. I'm gonna do a science experiment...

I'm going to guess (Belt Sander) and the brown stains are burn marks.

I've got a dollar bill that went through the wash and ended up coming out looking like the reverse of the bill shown above...but my bill looked like that on both sides...barely anything left on the front side. Kinda weird seeing the fading only on the back, and the front being totally normal. Nevertheless, it's an interesting bill!

It looks like what would happen if you left a bill on the dashboard of your car for about a month.
