Has anybody noticed that in the 2009 RedBook, the mintage figure for the 1893S Morgan dollar is now 77,000? In all past issues the mintage was listed at 100,000. I E-mailed Whitman Publishing and asked if it was a typo. They replied that the figure is based on research by Q David Bowers.

Looks like the value of the 1893S Dollar is bound to head North.

1890s mintages aren't too accurate. there were 100,000 dollars minted in san francisco in 1893. that doesn't necessarily mean that there were 100,000 1893S dated dollars minted. some were probably dated 1892S. the same situation is possible with the 12,000 1895 dollars. its very possible that 12,000 1894 dollars were minted in 1895. I've only read about this as speculation. I don't think there is any proof.
