I am curious how many banks some of you who do alot of CRHing use?
I started out at my own bank, they will order me boxes, about 4 a week.
I then opened accounts at 3 other small regional banks to dump. I do 3 so I can hit up different branches and spread things out.
Now I am wanting more then the 4 boxes my first bank will order me each week. So I am thinking about opening accounts at more banks. I am also thinking of opening a few more accounts for dumping.
I have not become a member of the large banks like Chase or Wells Fargo, because they got rid of their coin counters. Should I open Chase and Wells Fargo account and then try to get boxes from them? I have plenty of Wells Fargo's around me.
I am looking at having like 8 bank accounts if I keep opening accounts. How many do ya'll use? Opening accounts is free and I have the money to meet minimun balances. Is there a down side to having too many accounts? Decides having to keep track of all of them and make sure no fees are being charged.
If I had 8 accounts, I'd prolly use 3 for boxes and 5 for dumping.
Thanks for any comments!

I use two local banks, but if I'm out of town during the week, I'll pick up boxes elsewhere.

I have 7 accounts, but use only 5 routinely for CRHing. I use 30 local branches of the 5 banks for CRHing mainly halves. None of the banks in my area have counters, so I reroll all my coins. I enjoy placing large orders for halves when I travel out-of-state. Only once have I gotten in a bind and had ~$3K worth of loose halves to dump shortly before heading to an airport. Thankfully, a BofA helped me out by accepting coin-lock bags. They credited my account (with about $30 in my favor) later :)
I'm an enginerd (engineer + nerd = enginerd), so I track everything with a spreadsheet to ensure I spread my pickups and dumps. I also track my finds, though finds are slim.
That said, CRHing is only a hobby for me. I do not CRH for profit. I have found CRHing takes too much time to consider any finds as profit. For me, CRHing is simply another challenging form of recreation.

How often do they deny your order? What do you tell them? What is their typical response? Do you order from small banks or the big dogs? Thanks for sharing

I have 4 different banks that I have accounts with - 3 checking, one credit card only. I have full privilege at all of their branches with my current set up. Additionally, I have several good relationships with a few branches of smaller banks where they allow me to get coin. I use approximately 50 branches total between said banks for my CRH. I live near a very large city in Southern California, so travel and gas are not an issue. 10 or so of them I frequent every week, 20-25 every two weeks, and the others every month or so. I have found the more banks and branches you get coins from, the better your chance of stumbling upon a nice old hoard.
Be careful with your dumping with smaller banks - a lot of them don't deal in a lot of coin, and may cut you off at some point. Even some of the larger banks will cut you off and try to make you get a business account if you dump too much coin.
As for any downfalls, I have heard (but not confirmed) that having more bank accounts may adversely affect your credit score. I have yet to find proof of this, however.

Quote: Of your 3 banks, do any have counters? They got rid of counters at my banks long ago. I have yet to find a branch of any of my banks that has one. The only things near me (within a 25 mile radius) that have coin counters are credit unions. Quote: Do the different branches of each bank seem to know you picking up from one and dumping at another? Yes, and no. I tend to use different branches far away from each other for picking up and dumping. Only a few know that I do it, and most of those are tellers who have either switched branches or banks. Quote: Whats your relationship like with the banks you go to weekly? Great! I've been doing it for 2 years now and some even look out for nice coins for me. I've gotten some good little hoards of War Nickels, 40% Halves, pre-60 Jeffersons, individual Buffalos, War Nickels, and Wheat Cents thanks to these relationships. Quote: Are you using small local/regional banks, or the big national name banks? Both. The more the better. Most of my large transactions are with the bigger banks. I use the smaller ones mostly for smaller transactions. Quote: Thanks for the conversation. You're welcome!

I use 4 banks (all for legitimate banking), of the 4 I get change from 3 of them and boxes only from one. They will order me special boxes (halves, quarters) if I request them. I use one bank just for depositing my coins cause they have a machine and that works for me. I have found that not all banks will order you boxes of coins or even let you buy them without a minimal fee. I have been thinking of opening up other accounts in other banks but you don't know their policy on coins until you ask.

I live in a major metropolitan area, but I have accounts @ 3 banks and 3 CU, all of which have multiple branches in the metro area.
on Saturdays, I routinely go to 26 or more of them.

I use one bank (2 branches). Sometimes I will visit a second. The only other bank in town acts like I have green skin and trying to steal their identity (literally). I expect that wen out of town but not at home.
I do want to share a really good experience at an out of town bank. I asked the teller if I could get a box of pennies. I explained I was from out of town. She called someone in an office. The lady came out and stated they had not yet received their shipment and were out of boxes. she asked me to wait while she made a phone call. She came out a few minutes later and told me the man at the local hometown food store could give me one of his. That is how a bank should act.

At the peak of my CRHing days, I had around eight different bank accounts, with three of them (including branches) dumps and the rest for boxes. During semester breaks, I'd often hunt up to four days a week. My closest bank to home was/is a credit union, and they didn't give out boxes or bags, but had a nice counting machine, so it was a dump bank. One of the two other dump banks was also no boxes/bags, but would sometimes offer CWR, but the counter wasn't as fast. The third had faster counting machines which I enjoyed, but a couple branches didn't have one, so it was sort of a hybrid. Today, I'm down to two dump and two pickup, with that one "hybrid" account still active since I not only don't search as much, but I'm more of a VTH (video tape hunter). The non-account banks would be mostly for just asking for CWR, most specifically half dollars and dollars. I would average between six and eight boxes per hunt, though one time I had up to 12 boxes. The higher amount of banks allowed me to search more, and since I don't nearly search as often, a smaller amount of accounts prevents burnout from tellers that could impose fees like some of you get, and that happened a couple times during my peak. If I hunt today, I usually search between two and four boxes, with perhaps eight at the very most. The hassle of credit card and account statements put a limit on the number of accounts I possess, but I'd still occasionally open a new one in case a "free cash bonus" offer comes into play.

If I call an out-of-state bank and they refuse to order for me, then I simply contact a different branch until I find one that will order. Most branches are friendly about ordering, though they may look at me like I am an alien when I actually pickup the multiple boxes I've ordered

Do you tell them why you want them? How many boxes do you typically get? Thanks for sharing. I'm trying to learn my box strategy! Briton

Quote: What types of coins are you ordering? Do you tell them why you want them? How many boxes do you typically get? Halves. If they ask, then I tell them I'm a collector. Typically only 4 boxes from each branch. I've experienced push back if I try to order more than 4.
