numismatic student, at first I couldn't believe you owned such a spectacular pattern. Then I saw the rest of your post, and then I knew why.

sorry for the poor photo. This was before I got a decent camera and I haven't updated the pic. Its Judd-235 and I bought it from a dealer while looking for something totally other, almost on a whim. I have no other patterns and don't have any particular plans to get into them.

My avatar is J-1690. I was looking through some slabbed coins that a LCS in my area had and this was among them. I snapped a quick picture of the coin...if I had a spare $8000 it could have been mine. I inquired about it recently to get a better picture, but it was sold. The story behind it is that the LCS comes across these every once in a while when purchasing whole collections. Usually a coin in the mix. I'm told that not many folks inquire or buy them, but when they do, they go for respectable money. http://www.PCGScoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/62095

I own a few items that were made in anticipation of the Sacagawea dollar release by the Gallery Mint and Daniel Carr. Not sure if those count as Patterns.

What is the legality of owning a pattern or trial coin from another country? I have heard the government of said countries can confiscate the coin at will.
