I wanted to share some available information regarding this topic.

The reason I was looking into this was that I had been wondering how such an enormous output of these was achieved. What I take away from the details related on the above webpage is that while the process was somewhat streamlined over time, it still seems to me that it was rather labor intensive, with a lot of operations done by hand. I remain astonished that these were nevertheless made by the many millions.

Yes, I see that. I've since changed it to a permissible link that contains essentially the same information regarding the evolution of cash coin manufacturing techniques.

There were a ton of provincial branch mints in China, and private issues (ie, "contemporary counterfeits") were tolerated and circulated as long as they were done well and of the right metal, weight, etc.
