This copper coin weighs 13.95 g and measures 16 mm across. Here are two photos of each side.

There is a partial Arabic date, not terribly visible in photos, of 129(then 2, 3, or 4).

This AH date of 1292-1294 would correspond to AD 1875-1877. I suppose it could also be a blundered date.

I don't see any matches in Zeno, or under Jodhpur in Krause. Also, Sayaji Rao III was the ruler of Baroda, not Jodhpur, and I don't see any similar coins under Baroda.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

IDENTIFIED - by looking through Krause for a square copper coin of the right time period. This is a Gwalior paisa, KM 233. Here are some photos of other specimens

I wish I as an observer had the original in my hand to look back and forth between it and the pictures. I am baffled how you identify these. Especially with only a photo. I'm getting a headache scrolling up, down, up, down.

Yes it helps to have the coin in hand and be able to examine it under differing light and magnification. To compare photos it can help to open two browser windows and size them to see both photos side to side. I've also learned that for hand-struck coins the dies can differ considerably while having the same elements and the position of the flan on the die can vary a lot.

Have had good success looking through books for coins of the right shape, weight range, and general appearance.

Hope some of these suggestions may be helpful.
