Wondering if any of you would take another look at this. I posted it before, but wasn't happy with the pictures. I am considering sending to a TPG and your advice on whether or not it is a good candidate would help me a lot.

Here is the new pic along with the old ones. Thank you.

I don't claim to know Jeffersons but I will give it a shot. It looks like a 67 although the reverse strike looks a little soft which might bring it down to 66. A slight scratch in the upper left field of the obverse also may lower the number. I can't tell if this is CAM or DC from the photos but it looks like it's at least the former. Beautiful coin -- enjoy it.

Thanks Groganking. You were a huge help. I saw one like it in the Heritage Auction archives that was an MS68CA and sold for $3737. I have been comparing it to mine trying to figure out what made the one on Heritage so valuable...and I think you just opened my eyes to it. To my eye, it doesn't look to be in quite as good condition as mine, but the reverse (and obverse) strike appears to be considerably stronger. I might never have noticed that without your help. Thanks so much!

Here is that comparison. I changed that background on the Heritage specimen to match mine just to make as many factors alike as possible.

Tough to judge the old pics. for cameo. The older pics. suggest it probably from the dark background and relections. but some show just barely cameo (newer pics). I see some nicks and dings etc. on some of the pics. and busy fields. (fields may be just dust etc.)In hand you could tell if just proof or cameo (not DC though)
Too bad they never sharpened up old tom and monticello over the years.
Overall avg. on all pics. PR 65 cam. 66 ?

Thanks Indian1, I am pretty sure it is at least "cameo". The field looks like a liquid mirror in person, and despite the fact that I would love it to be a DC, I would be quite happy with CA. Thanks so much for your time and input.

Maybe I am learning something else here too. You referred to it being "proof or cameo". Can an SMS be graded as a proof? Somehow I was under the impression that all UNC SMS coins were graded as MS? Not the case?

Can anyone clear me up on this?

Hi

Sorry, my mistake. I was so busy looking at the coin did not notice.
Omit the PR (proof) designation. Just used to seeing cameo on proofs.
My mind was on a proof when I mentioned sharpening up Tom etc. :)
You are correct with the SMS being graded MS. As they are not proofs.
Time to head out shortly for a cocktail :)
