(I've gotten a little bit wordy... If you want to skip to the end I'll understand)
I think I might have stumbled across something grand in an album of
Jefferson nickels that I hadn't given much attention.
I bought 4 albums from a dealer a while back for what averaged about $3 or $4 an album.
Anyway... Today I searched through a box of nickels and had managed to complete a set from 1958 onward (except for 1971P) and thought I'd run through those old albums to see what they had and if they would help me get any closer to completing a circulated set.
3 of the albums were exactly what I thought they would be. I managed to finish up the circulated set except for the 38DS, 39DS, 50PD, and 71P.
So I opened up the last album (an old Library of Coins album) and was a little confused. First off there were several nickels that were in incorrect slots. So I started taking those out. I was surprised when 4 of those misplaced nickels were silver. The rest of the misplaced ones were dated prior to 1942. In total I knocked about 15 out of slots they weren't supposed to be in.
Then looking at what was left I was again surprised at how many looked to be UNC. There were several that weren't anywhere close but about half of the remaining nickels looked to be in great shape.
I'm not familiar enough with Jefferson's to know what makes a MS coin and what doesn't. So I pulled out the
RedBook and did some reading. From what I can tell I think that I was pretty close in my initial assumption and I have what looks like to me to be 15 UNC Early
Jefferson nickels.
I've taken a couple of pics of them (1 Obverse and 1 Reverse) and although I know they aren't in great focus I think they might be in good enough focus to determine if I'm looking at UNC examples.
So if you would... take a look at the following 2 images and tell me if you think that these are UNC.
ObverseReverseEdit: (For what it's worth 4 of them look to be have full steps and another 3 are pretty close... The other 8 are no where near FS.)
