I like this as a 66!
PS - I don't care for toned coins, but the toning on this Barber is VERY appealing.

I did not see the grade posted before I replied (posted grade on 2nd page of thread).
Send to CAC for a "second opinion". Ask to cross at grade with PCGS if you want to go that route.

That's going to be good advice I think for the buyer who forks out almost $9,000.00 to get it.

One of NGC's benefits of being 3rd party is not having to explain why they graded it what they did. I'd say Ms-63 (not giving brownie points for the admittedly lovely toning.)

Certainly not a 67 in my opinion. None of us here (I think quite correctly), thought that high ! Just a few hours earlier today, I was discussing over grading with TPG's with one of the most respected proffessional numistmatists in Australia. He visits the U.S. 3 or 4 times a year to attend numismatic symposia to listen and give lectures on coins, and to attend the top American public auctions. He is of the opinion that there is increasing pressure on the Third Party Graders to give optimistic opinions, mainly for American coins, but also across the whole of numismatics, especially where there is big money involved with a single grade point difference in high grade coins. Optimistic opinions attract more customers.

The coin is way overgraded. It should be MS-63, maybe 64 at the maximum.
This is another example of "buy the coin, not the holder."

Has anybody viewed the coin in hand?

Quote: Has anybody viewed the coin in hand? Ditto. I think we are all realizing how difficult it is to grade from pictures.

Thanks SilverDollar2017. I understand its easier/ more accurate to grade a coin in hand, but to play off every TPG mess up/ over grade etc as "needing to see the coin in hand" instead of considering that the TPG may have possibly messed up is getting old

More often than not, there is a BIG difference between pictures (even GOOD pictures) and a coin in hand.

The hair below liberty is weak which I think is a soft strike. How that equals MS67 is beyond me. This coin is from RCW. They are I think among the top of high end rare coin dealers out there.
