I have ran into 4 of these roll searching but Cant identify the RPM #. Has anyone else got a handle on these. Both examples appear fully rounded with complete doubling and 4 formed corners of D. One example (MS-RB) you can see the second D in the center (north). The other (AU-BN) you can also discern the second MM in the middle.
I have found a dozen examples of machine flattened or sliding MM's but they are all flat and not rounded like the examples shown. I'm stumped...?

Cam, I think the bottom one is just a hit. The top is reduced enough, thinner I mean than the normal fat. Also I have noticed the lower serif having a shallower appearance, I suspect a broken puncheon there, chipped off the punch. The top looks like a pushed MD. I have heard it explained that because of the deeper detail of MM, it catches the bounce movement more than the date being shallower.

Oh, and also the inside of lower pix is a broke punch, that I remember.

Thanks Bo I had these in my second string box and was digging through it looking for my 82's last night and they were just bugging me. The first one looks so typical of a RPM but think your right on second example. Run into these occasionally and the device underneath is always shinier and thin, well formed but thin. RPM's from the 80's are a tough find. Might send the first to Mr. Wexler as its pretty well formed.

Only three listed on Variety Vista.

The second one look interesting with the swoop in the center. But the mint mark looks altered a bit on the top.
Coppercoins has nothing listed like this for a RPM.
Wexler has nothing listed that year.
So it must be coin damage on them. Bummer
