I saw this "...one of the first strikes..." 1971 Eisenhower silver dollar with President Nixon pedigree listed on ebay. Opinions?

Could it be one of those prototype strikes? I wonder who nabbed it. If it does turn out to be a packaged prototype we'll be hearing about it soon enough. Based on the photos, the earth looks standard, but if memory serves, some key diagnostics are on the obverse.

I am skeptical of this listing as well as the LBJ Kennedy mentioned in the other post. Not something I would gamble on as being legit. It wouldn't surprise me if the same typewriter was used for both letters.

OK, I've compared the seller photos with the photos on the Ike Group report, and I don't think this can be a prototype strike. I'm basing this solely on the earth. The islands are clearly visible in the seller's close-up photo. On the prototype, the islands are virtually nonexistent. The earth looks more like a round blob with muted features. However, that doesn't mean this coin couldn't potentially be some new, undiscovered mule. Wishful thinking on my part, but comparison of the obverse features are inconclusive based on the photos provided, at least for me they are.

Here's the link to the official Ike Group photos. Scroll down to Section 2 (page 28) on the Chatham Prototype (71-S Business Issue):

I must agree. I don't have a good feeling about this one. At first I was really wishing I had had a shot at it, but not anymore- not after making a few comparisons.

Not the same typewriter, IMO. The LBJ letter has a fairly weak strike on the descending letters and the letters are slightly rounded. The Nixon letter has evenly-struck letters which are more square.

It's weird to me, though, that the Nixon letter is allegedly signed by a Congressman but is on White House letterhead.

Edit, to correct the last paragraph -- I misinterpreted the Congressman as the sender, not the recipient. That would explain the letterhead.

Same letter (different recipient) sold at a previous Goldberg auction for $518.

I suppose "Tricky Dick" could have said " I think I'll have my secretary send out a bunch of theses dollars to people, maybe it will help me get re-elected. "
A PR thing. All he had to do was use that shortened signature. Perhaps it's legit.
I just wonder why I didn't get one.

The coin introduced in the initial posting was featured within a 2022 NMS presentation. It has an established provenance AND pedigree. Yes, both !

Just to be clear the following definition of provenance and pedigree was used.
