I have built a sizeable collection of Palestine and early Israel coins over the years. It seems that the appeal of these collections is relatively low to most coin collectors. Does anyone know why that is the case?

They are certainly interesting from a historical standpoint. I only suspect their visibility is lower than many highly marketed coins at shows being touted as "investments". When investor mania dies down, I suspect people will resume interest in coins of historical interest such as these.

I sure hope so. I believe the history of the British Mandate period is very interesting and applicable to what has transpired in the region since the British left.

G'day,
apparently, all one needs is 59 coins to cover all combinations of denominations and dates. Dansco make an album for the set.
I've made a note of this as a possible target for future acquisitions. I have had two coins since I was a boy, which I assume came from the till in my Dad's business.
I have seen a set of 59 for sale: as I recall, the asking price was US$3,000. That struck me as a lot more than I would expect to pay.
Rather than obsess over the 59, a set of 1927 coins, and the 1942 bronzes would make a representative "type set" of nine coins.
I'm not aware that any coins in the series are particularly difficult to obtain.
I've never met anyone with any interest in the subject, except the OFEC collectors, of course.
I gather that the notes, on the other hand, are difficult to obtain, and expensive.
Peter

Peter,
Indeed 59 coins. I have a complete set at VF type grade and am trying to build a second set of higher grade coins, which are more expensive. The Dansco is hard to come by as it is not a standardized album. If you know where I can buy it cost-effectively that would be great.
Generally the coins do not possess the beauty (pretty generic) have 3 languages on them (Arabic, English and Hebrew) and to me solely provide an historical viewpoint. If you know/hear of good sources to buy from I am interested.
I did see quite a few notes and decided to stay out of that domain given the prices demanded.
Thanks Peter. Best.

They're fairly common here in Australia. Many of our diggers spent time in Palestine during or after WWII, in transit to other theatres of war, and brought home a few coins from there as war souvenirs. I recall helping a schoolmate of mine discover that he had a scarcer date among the coins given him by his grandfather; the 1934 20 mils, if I recall correctly.

Yep this is indeed a good date. I will keep tracking new sources of information on this very focused collection. Thanks Sap!
