Does anybody have anymore information about this? I was looking through a handful of 1954 5 Dollar Bills and I noticed that on a certain serial number prefix the Beattie and Rasminsky signature was noticeably bolder and positioned up and to the left of the regular signature. This causes Beatties signature to run into the word "Demand". I cant seem to find anything online about this

Here are the serial numbers of the bolded signatures:

And here are the rest of the regular signature serial numbers:

Whatcha think?

In my other post, I mentioned that the 1954 series was printed for 20 years. They printed hundreds of millions of them so I would think many different plates were used. Each new plate would have some variation to them. So I would think some signatures could be bigger than others or in a slightly different position. There is no premium to such bills because they are not errors.

BTW, the $5 bills look like Uncirculated or better. The 2016 Catalog gives a value of $45 to them.

Here's what I dug up quite a while ago when I also noticed a big difference in the signatures on some of my notes

Until approx 1968 the signature on the notes were applied by typography as a separate step in the printing process.  These signatures were heavier with considerable variation in the amount of ink applied, and they wandered around bit in alignment.  After 1968 the signatures were engraved right onto the plates resulting is a finer signature with no wandering.
I believe the change was shown to be at the end of the Y/S prefix.

Cheers, Bill
