If you have perused the pathetic offerings of so-called "error coins" being fraudulently pawned off on buyers who just may not be as fortunate to be informed as you folks are (for ANY number of reasons) here are some examples that just might sell. I am half tempted to try (half, mind you ). Let's try this first one: Awesome Toner! This spectacular 2003D Jefferson nickel with Rainbow Rose Toning can be your for only $3.99 plus $3.00 economy shipping and Handling. Don't miss out on this Rare Error coin...One of a Kind! Weellll, how about this one, it really has potential: Struck through Debris AND Lamination errors! This AMAZING 1964D Jefferson nickel has TWO Mint striking errors! Three separate laminations on the face and hair PLUS the added bounus of a MASSIVE piece of struck through debris above the dome of the reverse. This is called the "Clouds Over DC!" coin, yours for only two payment of $29.99 with FREE SHIPPING! No? Well, this one just has to sell, an honest to good real "error" coin: RIMLESS! Struck Through Grease Error Coin! Massive Grease Fill on the entire rim of this 2006D Jefferson nickel! Very unusual to have a complete loss of rim on any coin! Don't miss this one, will go quick! $15.36 plus $6.70 USPS Priority Mail Envelope, guaranteed Three day delivery! These may seem fairly senseless, but they do sell, and are bought, hype works. And yes, I DO KNOW what each is and why they ARE NOT error coins. For a test I really am tempted to put these up for sale just to see if they sell, then I will have the opportunity to instruct a buyer what these really are. If they still want them, they'll get this crap for free!

Crazyb0, this sounds like a good idea, but at the same time dangerous! Be careful! It's a good test, but it's something I'm not gonna try. I did get a great laugh out of this though.

Sellers that try to sell coins similar to these give the hobby a bad name. They are why people don't trust people. It makes it harder for collectors and honest dealers to sell authentic errors and varieties.

Quote:Yall just jealous Tropicalbats got 107$ for a MD Wheat cent - LOL!! Link?Nevermind, found it. That's a completely legit listing. You want to blame the seller for stupid people raising the price? If it were BIN, then maybe. An auction starting at $2.99 without a reserve is an entirely different story. I'm actually surprised someone didn't bring up "shill bidding". This is perfect proof that there are many, many uninformed people (unwilling to learn) with money ready to spend and I, personally, am not going to look out for them. Good luck!

Spruett, it was a legitimate listing yes, but ethical? It seems this was condoned as acceptable business as usual behavior. As CWB said, it hurts the hobby and gives it a bad name, I don't care if it is Uneducated buyer(s), just what IS the PURPOSE of this forum anyway? SOMEBODY needs to set the example, how much better the ones WHO SHOULD KNOW! http://goccf.com/t/312667

Ethical?
What exactly does that mean?

The simplest form of ethics is summed up in the old adage"Treat others as you would have them treat you". If you chose to overcharge for a product, then don't complain about the prices you are asked to pay. If you are ungrateful, or any other "uns", then don't expect, demand or require it of others. Period. What is "Fair for the goose, is fair for the gander", may be "old school" to the millennial, but it has worked for millennia for mankind.

If you have to explain what Ethics is, you've lost.
