Nope, that is a crude fake but I did not need the most obvious hint to tell me that. When compared to the real thing, the detail differences are apparent. Here is a link to an electrotype from Heritage Auctions http://coins.ha.com/common/view_ite...Lot_No=81004 An electrotype is a copy made from a genuine coin.

BTW, that most obvious hint I mentioned? Look on the reverse by the Eagles right talon clutching the arrows- "COPY"

uh yeah...

i couldn't make out what that said just looking at the coin and I didn't really inspect the picture after getting it on the computer... but now I kinda feel like a dunce

Virtually anything marked COPY will be a relatively recent creation due to the Hobby Protection Act of 1973. Replicas made prior to that were commonly unmarked. It is interesting though- I have never seen a copy of a Washingtonia medal, it is usually just actual coins so thanks for showing me something new

That copy predates the 73 hobby protection act. The word copy is too small to be in compliance with the act. While there were many unmarked copies before 1973 there were a lot of pieces marked copy as well.
