Hi all,
I'm new to CCF and coin collecting in general. I assume I'm younger than most collectors out there (28) ~ I wanted to share a brief intro with y'all on how I got into coin collecting.
I bought my first coin in my collection about 2 weeks ago. I had held onto a few unusual coins as a child (Canadian pennies and such) but nothing I'd really call a collection - Actually, I've been collecting Nintendo Entertainment System games since the late 90s, but that's another story. When I learned about inflation, even in grade school, I soon came to realize the importance of tangible investments like property and precious metals.
After coming into some money, I searched ebay for silver quarters to see what was out there. So I was expecting to buy a lot of some 1950s coinage or something, and I was blown away... I can buy a 100+ year old quarter for under $10? I'm in.
And check this out - I bought a 1915D Barber quarter in VG condition for $6.50 including S&H. The buying power of $0.25 in 1915 would be about $6.24 today and has a melt value of about $3.00. I wish my great-grandparents had left me a few coins.
Rest in Peace

BarberShop: to the CCF!
Looks like you have had the collecting bug for quite some time.
I collected some scarce coins of my own country as a kid, but just out of curiousity, I bought a Roman denarius when I was 19. That induced be to read up on ancient coins for about 2 years, before I bought my second ancient coin.

That was more decades ago, than I am prepared to admit.

If you go down that track, you will end up with a valuable collection, that only you will fully appreciate (except other collector tragics, like myself).

Your acquaintances, who don't fully appreciate the collector mind-set, will always see the the opportunity to sell everything, and immediately, if at all possible.

If you sell all, by definition, you are not a collector.

If you keep going for a lifetime, as some of us are here in the CCF continue to do, you become a numismatic tragic, and nobody will be able to change you.

Some call it a disease; I don't mind.

to CCF!

Yeah, you don't have to explain the power of addiction to a community of addicts. I can give up coins any time I want to.

Welcome, this forum has helped me a lot. A lot of great advice and many different views on different subjects, so you can chose which advice appeals to you better.

I to was drawn to the older coins at first and still am of sorts, but you will quickly learn that desired dates and coins and bank notes in good condition are the hard items to collect.

At first you'll be pulled into many directions, but I would suggest finding a series, like Morgans, Gold coins or wheat pennies to focus on and build from there.

Enjoy the hobby.

LOL This made my day.

Joke of the day.
If I sold my collection I'm taking my family to dinner.
A: Could be France.
B: could be BugerWorld
