Coinvirgin is confused as to just which
1970 S LMC is the valuable/ rare ?
On page 153 of CPG 6th edition Vol 1 it shows the 1970s large date variety as having a high premium.
On page 156 it has 1970s small date variety a MS-65RB valued at $28 ?

As well asStrike it Rich with Pocket Change 4 th edition on page 56 it has 1970s large date and shows a approx. value for EF at $3,500.
On page 57 1970s - small date ( level 7)
Extra fine-$15
On the bottom of the page it goes on to say the "small date" is the " valueable" variety,

I'm confused can someone clear this up for me?

In the "Strike it rich with pocket change" 4th edition, PG56 is showing a rare 1970-S DDO, thus the very high premium. PG57 is showing a normal 1970-S small date, which is rarer than a non-DDO 1970-S Large date, thus the small premium. One's a super-rare error worth thousands, the other is a less-common variety worth $20 bucks or so.

And is the 1970s small date a DDO?
Nothing is mentioned in either guide of it being a DDO. Only how to determine if it is a small date?

The 1970-S small date is much rarer than the large date variety.

Roy has it right. I think you are confusing the 1970S LD business strike with a 1970S LD DDO business strike. The DDO is rare calling for a high premium.

The 1970S SD business strike is a variety coin (Obverse design intended to be used with the Proof coins only). Low numbers (business strikes) were inadvertently(?) coined with the proof obverse design. As such, it commands a small, but decent, premium. In my estimation, $28 for an MS65 coin is low.

There are the Proof varieties as well.
Rest in Peace

My biggest way to help end confusion is to toss the Strike it rich book in the fireplace. The Author is rich, you most likely never will...

The 1970-S Small Date (high 7) has a higher value than the Large Date (low 7).

I can't say much about the books as I don't own them. I believe this confusion about the these books was posted not too long ago by someone else.

Aha! I believe that's what I was thinking of and it wasn't a different user.

Thanks, Doug.
