Good afternoon from the UK. I just wanted to introduce myself to this wonderful forum where I hope I can learn from everyone. I have recently inherited a small collection of old coins from my late father. I must admit that I have absolutely no idea where to start. I know that there is a lot of reading material for me to get through but as I have vision problems this can be quite challenging and no doubt will take a very long time! Now I must be honest from the start I don't know if I will be keeping the collection or selling it. I think I will need to see if I catch the collecting bug. Any way I just wanted to say hello and I look forward to being a part of the forum all be it a fairly useless one!

First I would divide the coins into groups. Start with countries. If they are all from one country, then you are in luck and you only need to get one coin book which lists the value of those coins at today's market. Make sure you get a book that was published withing the last 2 years, As price do change. Once you got that all sorted out, then you will have to learn about grading the conditions of the coins and all of that business. This is where this forum will come in handy. Fell free to post pictures and we will give you our opinion and suggestions. Enjoy!

Thank you all for your welcome. TheBurnz, thank you for your advice. Luckily the majority of my dads collection is from the UK, so just the one book for now! Phew that's a relief. Now learning about grading a coin.... that's something to give you nightmares! Lucky for me I also inherited his very unorganised stamp collection, just a very large box crammed full of stamps from all over the world. That I think is going to take many books .
