I forgot to order in during the initial onslaught but managed to squeee in and order the proof and the unc 3 hours after they began the ordering period. This isn't going to sell out. Not even by December. Not even close.

I'm wondering how long it will take some of the major TV sellers to have graded quanities in hand while the folks that what for 2 months to have theirs graded are still waiting?

First day sales appear to be pretty dismal...

Less than 38k across all options.

I'm still on the fence about this one, but if I get anything it'll be the $1 silver coins. The price for clads is just silly.

The Mint has reported the first week of sales for the $5 gold coins as 5,627 PRFs and 2,727 UNCs for a total combined sales of 8,354.

This is MUCH stronger than last year's Boys Town $5 which had first week combined sales (UNC, PRF & 3 coin set) of 4,984. It took 25 weeks of sales (Aug 27 report) before Boys Town combined sales of 8,370 surpassed BCA's first week of sales.

The sales for the Boys Town coins were only 2,947 UNCs and 7,347 PRFs (singles & 3 coin set) for the entire year. The BCA coins have nearly equaled those totals in just their first week of sales.

Looks like the price increase and gold content decrease has not affected early sales in the least.

After the first 3 weeks of sales, the sales of the BCA $5 commemoratives remain much stronger than last year's Boy's Town commemoratives

With the production report released today (as of 1 Apr), the BCA coins have surpassed the entire production of last year's commemoratives. Current mintage of the $5 PRF is 7,921 and the $5 BU is 3,522 (combined total of 11,443). The entire year's production for the Boy's Town coins were PRF - 7,347 and BU - 2,947 (combined total of 10,294)

Looks like the Boy's Town $5 commemoratives will retain their status as the key date of the commemorative half eagles for at least another year

The US mint 2018 breast cancer program is now over. My wife is a breast cancer survivor. I bought one $5 proof gold, one $5 UNC gold and one silver proof dollar.

According to US mint web site, through 12/30/18 sales of the silver proof dollar 34,553; $5 gold proof 10,390; $5 gold UNC 4,478, silver UNC dollar 12,521, clad proof 17,940, coin and stamp set 4,452. Looks like some sad sales numbers but I don't know how these compare to past commemoratives. The sales were certainly lower than mint maximums.

I don't think collectors liked the gold $35 surcharge, only 85% gold content and the "pink" color wasn't very pink. Maybe someday these will be worth more due to low sales. Maybe not enough sales for the mint to recoup costs and actually send surcharge money to the charity.

Thanks for the update. Yes sales have been dismal for the commemoratives for some time but some of us still take interest. Usually they decline in value and can be had for less than mint prices on the secondary market but if you think a coin may do well it's best not to wait.

When looking at the BCA gold coins alone, no they are not that impressive but put one next to any other gold coin and the contrast really pops.

Maybe but the mintage really isn't that low, if anything it will be the unique color that sets it aside.

I have not put my BCA gold coins next to a normal gold coin. The difference may be more than I realize.
