I picked this up raw and am in love with it. I am hoping the community can help me judge the grade. Also feel free to critique my photo skills (or lack thereof)

MS63. The rev. looks like some nice luster. The obv. looks like it may have been cleaned with something. Maybe it's just the light reflection or lack thereof. Outstanding pictures for your 1st post! ! Has this coin already been graded?

It has NOT been graded. I don't think I caught the luster on the obverse very well. It has some shine and cartwheel but has what I think is uniform toning/darkening across the surface.

It also seems with coin photos in general there is a fine line between catching the accurate luster and getting too much reflection/contrast/distortion/blow out. I have to work on it.

For someone with only three posts on CCF, your pics are in the top 10% of what we typically see. Well done!

Yes, agreed. Lighting and reflection is always a problem for me and catching the right depiction of the coin. Just takes practice.

What does: Gtg mean?

Gtg is usually used as guess the grade if a coin has already been graded.

Looks like I definitely used the wrong lingo. What I am hoping is that you guys can tell me what you think the coin would grade at. It is raw and not graded by TPG. I was thinking about getting it sent in eventually.

Thanks for the photo compliments. The photo stuff is a good distraction to keep me from buying too many coins, lol.

I am no expert on these, but I would say MS64. I think I see slight remnants of an old fingerprint above and to the right of the native's head, but it is very minor if so.

As to the photo quality, the fact that they are detailed enough to see a tiny nick on the reverse rim or a possible fingerprint is telling. I'll give them an A.

There actually is a very light fingerprint mark on the upper right obverse but is impossible to see at most angles. Sometimes these photos have a way of making a coin look worse than it appears in-hand. I'm sure the graders would catch it. Would probably take away a point all things considered.

Authentic - likely MS-something ... impossible to judge the grade with any accuracy despite the otherwise well produced photos.

I do welcome you to the wonderful world of classic silver commemorative - a 50 coin type set of which the Oregon Trail Memorial (1926 - 1939) is often judged as the most artistic member.
