Hello Everyone,

I purchased this coin from the US Mint. What are your opinions about this coin positive and Negative? Also if anyone has this coin is it struck in High Relief? If there are other posts in this forum about this coin my apologies and please direct me to that post.

Thanks,

EMK

Because of the price over spot the mint charges for the $10 proofs (and other denominations) you have to wait for someone who didn't buy it from the mint, an increase in spot price, or enough time passed to gain back your initial purchase price.

Take a look at the $5 Gold commemorative issues. Prices near spot and much lower mintage.

There was some discussion earlier on this thread: http://goccf.com/t/306422

This coin is not high relief (unlike last year's one ounce piece which is).

As for positive and negative, there is significant debate over the beauty and politics of the design (the latter of which specifically we will not get into here). Given the relative lack of popularity of both pieces, it will likely remain a low mintage issue. Whether that will contribute to a long-term gain in value remains to be seen.

As Alpha mentioned no, it is not a high relief coin.

Okay, now I'm confused. Before answering the question above, I found this article that states the coin is not high relief. There is nothing on the US Mint site that says either way. But the slabs coming from PCGS (and some from NGC) do say "High Relief".

It's hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like it might be high relief after all. I stand ready to be corrected.

How are sales on this so far? Doesn't seem like people are scooping them up.
