Trying to get as many opinions as possible before deciding whether to send this in for grading or not. Thoughts on a grade? Thanks!

Looks XF45ish to me. This may be the high relief variety, but even that is a $150 coin at the most if certified with that grade. IMO certify if you have spare coins to grade as part of a package deal, but otherwise pass.

All 1921 Peace dollars are high relief. IMO I wouldnt have this one graded. It may just be the picture or my phone, but the obverse seems a bit off to me. Perhaps cleaned many many years ago.

It is not worth grading, unless you use ANACS $10 special. It has been cleaned.

Cleaned or not, it's not worth the cost of grading. to the CCF!

Agree that it looks XF or low AU based on wear on hair on obverse, although detail on feathers on reverse looks a bit better. But in terms of "cleaning" or "polishing", that is a harder call without looking at the coins "in hand" and seeing the "cartwheel luster" (or lack of it.). But agree it looks pretty darn "shiny" for a coin its age and condition, so I would take the suggestions above that it is likely "cleaned".. good eye on that.. I'm getting better and the "technical grade" but determining "cleaned" is still real tough.. although Peace dollars are heavily cleaned, especially when found "in the raw".

to the CCF. Hopeful that you pull up a stool to the collective coin discussion campfire and join us for the long term discussion. Your 1921 Peace dollar as shown by photo is not worthy of any grading fees IMHO. it is circulated to the (at best) XF grade range and cleaned/polished. This is a common coin in this grade ... even with original surfaces. Save your TPG money for a better example.

Odd that so many are saying cleaned/polished. I can look at several coins on ebay with the exact same finish/patina that have been graded by PCGS and have no mention at all of cleaning. Example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-Peace...AOSwjVVV03LSNot saying it's not, as I don't have sufficient enough knowledge to say one way or the other. But I really appreciate all of the input and advice. Thanks.

Odd that so many are saying cleaned/polished. I can look at several coins on ebay with the exact same finish/patina that have been graded by PCGS and have no mention at all of cleaning. Peace dollars are definitely tough to detect "cleanings", especially "Old Cleanings". The way I have seen most "experienced graders" do it is by rotating the coin under a good light and examining the "cartwheel effect" and the "luster" and look for signs of "polish marks" that you can sometimes see when shining the light against the coin at an angle. This is something that is VERY tough to see from a single photos, and why you really need to have a "coin in hand" at times to make a determination. And even then, I have seen different coin "experts" at shows I go to disagree if something was "cleaned" or not... And I wouldn't doubt that even the grading companies get it "right" all the time, but at least they should catch any real "obvious" cleaning and give it a "Details" grade. I am learning that Coin Grading is definitely not easy! Michael Michael

einstem, this one is pretty easy to see the polishing without having it in hand. looking at the high points in hair and especially on the reverse in the feathers around the eagles leg the metal looks like its almost melted, flat and dull. a sure sign of polishing
