I found this 1969 penny in an old Whitman coin folder and I was wondering if it is a double die coin?

Nope, not a Doubled Die. This is Machine Doubling. Machine Doubling reduces the devices in size and the doubling is shelflike in appearance. On a true Doubled Die, the devices would increase in size, not be reduced in size. For Doubled Dies, you need to look for extra thickness, notching, and separation lines.

The affected devices are with Machine Doubling. Note that all the devices are thinner now because of die movement damaging the devices. Leaving the flat, shelf like. They show the same color because there is not contour of the devices. This happened a lot on the 1968-1972 cents. Seems like on the 1973 cents where they used more pressure, prevented this from happening as often.

Big = Good, Little = Bad! As in all of life, increase in size is always good, a decrease of size is a much less desirable option...

I don't know. I think I'd rather have a small rock fall on me. I'd also rather be hit by a matchbox car than a full size car.
