@koh, first welcome to CCF. Second, it looks to me like a third option is most likely. Specifically, it looks like someone applied crazy glue to this cent, stuck another cent to it, and then removed that second cent. What you have left is a normal cent with a bit of dried glue carrying the impression on another cent. This would explain why the letters in that region are backwards.

@Spence, thank you for the welcome. I appreciate your insight and information. How would you suggest I clean this coin safely?

No prob. Glad to help and I hope we see more interestng coins from you. Generally acetone will remove the adhesive and not damage your coin, with one caveat. Since the rest of the copper surface of this coin has been exposed to air longer, it will likely tone differently than this area which has been protected. I would also point out, that while this is a very nice coin, it is still pretty common and probably not worth more than face value. Perhaps consider spending this one and using the time saved from not cleaning it to do a little coin roll hunting? Just a thought--obviously spend your time as you see fit.

I would clean off the glue and save it as a Woody example.

Soaking in pure acetone in a well ventilated area, will lift glue and organic matter off coins w/o damaging them But this isn't any rare keeper coin, send it free the way it is. Yea, to the answer factory! NOT a woodie, roller line staining! Sheesh!

I very much appreciate the quick responses and input. I'm new to the forum world and I'm slowly figuring out how this all works. Your answers helped me with other questions I had about this coin and no longer need to ask :) Looking forward to learning more from all of you on this forum.

@denman, I think what @crazyb0 was trying to say is: I respectfully disagree with you, but embrace the fact that here on CCF we can have civil differences of opinion. Here is a previous example of a vigorous discussion on woody vs. staining from roller lines: http://goccf.com/t/312847
