appears to have been dropped on it's edge, in your first photo it looks like it has pushed the edge in.

Well the outflow of metal on the rim looks like a clip characteristic. Also the denticles in that area are not well filled out. I'd say you have a very small clip on that 1859.

Yes, that is 100% a legitimate "rim clip". Note how the rims dovetail into the clip and weakness of the denticles immediately adjacent to the area. Look at the rims of this rim clip, and compare to your coin: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/ERROR-1976-...292462198666

Here is another example of a rim clip, on a circulated small cent: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/183133133081This is a roll hunter from Montreal, he finds stuff and sell them cheap enough to purchase even if only to study and learn...

Wow! I may have scores of them in my large cents. I never look for that stuff, but I know some of the edges are a little off.

i agree to disagree, not a clip. look at photo 2, denticles are pushed up, and full. the metal has been displaced by a jarring motion.. you can't truly compare this to any of those auction photos, that are in fact true clips, where you can see, reduced denticals, and no metal pushed up..

Silverwolf - The dovetailing of the rims, is almost impossible to do with damaging a coin - I have seen some pretty creative garage jobs over the years, and that is one feature that is not possible to do without wrecking the coin...
Canacoins - can you take a photo of the edge of the coin at the clip?
