Last Hwadong auction I took my (then) 7 year-old son. This time, at the 34th Hwadong Auction, a couple of extremely expensive/rare coins were going up. So, I convinced my wife, who is very frugal with money, to go with me and Oliver to experience it. It was a huge day for our family, even my wife. :) Hope you guys enjoy!

This video is in Korea, but has pre-edited English CC, so you don't need to click the subtitles button.

We sure did! About three days of homework. :) We were ready to win at the right price and most of the time we were spot on with our estimations. We got the auction list in advanced and looked them all up.

@mkman you get them right away. They are the exact coins in the video. I should take pics and post them up though.

That son of yours is going to be a numismatic tragic, when he grows up !

The 1867 Sydney Mint One Sovereign in AU50, was bought at somewhere around half of the current Australian market price. That represents good buying. Well done !

Holy smokes! I thought I did well, but didn't realize it was that good. There was another Aussie gold coin just after mine that sold for a little cheaper than that. Maybe next time in October I should scoop up all the Aussie/English/etc gold coins that are crazy cheap. I'll poke you guys in about 6 months. :)

My wife (sadly passed 5 years ago), never worried about whatever I spent on coins.

I had a complete 17 coin Australian gold type set with Adelaide Pound, which I sold just before we were married (43 years ago), to raise deposit for our first house. They helped to put a roof over her head, and get on with raising her family.

Best investment I ever made !

Your wife is beautiful...even when giving you "the look".

And your son is adorable! Love his little giggles when you won.
You picked up some awesome additions to your collection and
won some at great prices!

Sorry to hear you lost your wife sel-69l
An great investment on that type set!

@sel_69l I'm sorry you lost your wife. She must have been super cool to let you get those gold coins. :)

She said thank you~ :) She is always worried about how she looks on the YouTube videos we make. I try to tell her she's good but she never listens. LOL

As per the Aussie gold coins that pop up, if they sell as cheap as the one this time, I'm going to buy them all next go around.

Very entertaining video Lembafc
I like the "special effects" in the video
Thanks for sharing
I would like to second Debrajc's observation
Indeed your wife looks very presentable in the YouTube clip
I think it is really special when a family can share in an experience!
I think your son will remember the occasion for a long time!

PS. I think it is great to be frugal. I am frugal too. But sometimes it makes a nice change to spend some money too. In your example here it is an investment as well as a hobby!
