I have been collecting 1940 US coins for a bit now and just
recently bought a 1939 Nickel with a 1940 Reverse.

My question is ... how does one differentiate a 1939 Reverse
from a 1940 Reverse ? What differences are there ? I don't have
a 1939 Nickel to compare it to. I do have the "Mega Red" Coin
Book, but staring at each coins reverse nothing leaps out at me.

Thanks for the education,

Richard S.

If I have this right the 39 and 40's are the same, the 38 and 39's are different. Some 39's have the rev. of a 38 and the others have the rev. of the 1940.
Some one will be along with pics soon.

This might help. I think it came from Coop.

In the case of the 1939 D, the 40 reverse is still not considered common.

Thanks to all who replied. I understand the differences now.
The coin I bought is a Philadelphia Mint product.
