Well we (wife and I) are starting our Lincoln Cent collection. We are having fun so far and have sifted through all of our pocket change. Now we are just to the oldies. It should be fun. We have outlawed ebay UNTIL we have been collecting for a bit and only for any rare ones. However now that we have found CC then maybe not that either. Just wanted to kick off our membership here but saying....howdy Bill and Emily

Yeah I mean I love ebay...haha that is where I feed my other love...VW Buses! However we figured what fun is it to just go and buy your collection. However we realize to get the rare ones it might need to be done. I will probably hit up the local bank today and let them know that we are collecting and that we would be interested in their unwanted. Bill

Good choice of a series for collecting! Pocket change is not going to get you to far. Wheat cents are difficult to find as are some of the Memorial cents. For under $30 you can buy a complete set of Memorials in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated). For the Wheat's (1909-1958) you're going to have to work and pay. Save your money, because those key dates are going to hurt your wallet!

Work on rolls! I still see a lot of quality pennies from the 50's,60's and 70's in the 10-15 rolls a day I go through looking for copper.

You are in good hands here with a fair amount of us that collect pennies. You can collect a fair amount of the last 30 years in excellent condition from pocket change but you will have to go through a lot of it. I personally am trying to collect a set that is from pocket change and realized this from the lack of BU coins that are in each roll. The last 5-10 years are no problem and will be easy to get but after that it gets really difficult.
Like BadThad said, the Wheaties are going to be next to impossible because of how many people collect them and that they do not show up that often in rolls. In the last month I have gone through $200 in pennies and have been really lucky to find about 40 Wheaties, but almost all of these are in the 50's and not that great of condition. I would suggest looking at coin stores for the Wheaties and start buying what you can from them and see how the Memorials go from loose change.

........ It's a fun crowd here and you'll have a good time along the way .....I guarantee it ! The good ole Lincoln Head Cents.....woooo !!.....good fun one !....key and semi key dates can be costly.......but here's a good place to buy, sell, and trade as others have mentioned. The knowledge here is "top notch" and the environment is very friendly !

welcome to the forum....pennies bring back memories for me, one of the first sets I did was cents from 1941-1974, all from circulation, and I actually did manage to complete it. The funny thing was that it wasn't the steels, or even a Wheat cent that was the toughest coin for me to find when doing this set....it was the 1972-S, it turned out to be the last one I needed, and I was even living in California at the time.
