Hello Everyone!

I came across this coin recently. To my dismay, its been incorporated into a pendant has undoubtedly spiked the price up to almost 300 dollars. This coin seems to be a Byzantine Class B reign of Romanus III but I could be mistaken.

However, I am wondering how rare are such errors? Does this make the coin quite rare? and if so, how much is such a piece worth? Would appreciate any thoughts and comments!

I've never seen one like this...I would say take it to an ancients dealer and get their opinion or maybe try to find a similar one that sold at auction or in vcoins. Safe to say it's definitely worth more than your average one of the type though!

Interesting double strike. The Byzantine's didn't put a lot of effort into their bronze or billion coins I have a number of error byzantine coins in those metals. One interesting Trachy I has a legend of XC-XC instead of IC-XC.

They seem to have put more effort into striking their gold and silver issues. The coins designed for trade and for the upper class.

While looking for better attributions for my Byzantine coins, including an overstruck one, I learned that in many cases Byzantine coins were overstruck on older ones. That might possibly have happened here. There is interest in collecting these. Here's an article: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/by...ikes.302645/
