Was window shopping the latest Roma auction (not a single piece I can afford ) and spotted this cool piece:

http://romanumismatics.com/auction/lot/0584/

I had no idea such a coin existed, especially since the Jews had a bit of a "falling out" with Rome under Hadrian.

Anyone have a couple extra organs or kids to sell?

While the name Noah certainly makes an Old Testement/Jewish connection the likely interpretation it should be not forgotten that the "Noah Story" is actually older than Abraham. The ancient Sumerians and Akkadians recorded the story of Utnapishtim on clay tablets circa 4,000 BC.
You can read the translated text in Ancient Near Eastern Texts Relating to the Old Testament (aka ANET).
I spent one semester lugging that Guttenburg sized tome around in my backpack 38 years ago !
Or you can just check the wiki page and get the gist of it ! There is afterall such a thing as progress !

Have not seen this coin before, had no idea that the Romans would ever even refer to it. Great coin.

Fascinating piece, thanks for sharing the auction listing link. I'm supposing this is so rare that there's no RIC catalog entry for the type?

Perhaps not too surprisingly the entry for Apamea in wiki includes an old illustration of this coin type and stresses also the large Jewish population in the city.
