First post here at the forum. I have slowly been working on a commemorative type set. I had made it a mission to look for a 1949 Booker T Washington Half (father's birth year) at the coin shows and had been coming up empty handed till this month when I finally found a 1949 - D. This will go in my Library of Coins folder. I just wanted to share because it was seeming like an impossible mission for a while. Which date did you choose for yours?

I'm working on a complete set of US Early Commemoratives. So it's not a type set. I just recently completed the BTW set (18 coins). It turns out that the 1949 PDS set was the hardest to find and the last ones I got.

Thanks for the response. Every time I asked a dealer about it they would say that they hadn't seen one in a while. Glad to know I wasn't the only one. Good luck on the complete set! Are you doing a raw folder set or a certified set?

all the 49 BTW are tough finds. I'm glad you were able to find your father's birth year. Now you need every other coin from 1949. That would be a fun set.

to the CCF ... nice story of finding the appropriate coin from your Dad's birth year. I have two examples ... one MS and one honestly circulated ... but none dated 1949.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

I also have a 1949-D, although I didn't realize it was a tougher date when I got it.

My favorite is my 1950-S ; strong semi-prooflike, full strike, lovely light toning - really outstanding when compared with all of the other coins in the complete series ; although they differ from each other in form (frosty, P/L, semi-matte, etc) this one stands out.
