Esniped this coin from ebay. Must have been asleep - the 'replica' description was added later but in any case the casting and the fact that it's in 'gold' should have been warning signs. Seen anything similar? Your comments would be appreciated.

Its obviously fake. I see it a lot in Thalers I track. Do not pay if you do not feel this was fairly presented.

A thaler is a large (crown-sized) European silver coin.

By "it", I assume Zohar means "sellers putting 'replica' in the item specifics box, but not in the actual description of the item".

As for the coin in question, I concur that it's probably a cast fake. The seller says it has "corroded surfaces", but gold doesn't corrode like that.

The silver coin it's copied from is native to Israel/Palestine, so it was probably made as a "tourist copy" for sale in that area. The seller seems to have acquired his information from this coin on CoinArchives.
