I found this 1971 S LMC and the bowtie is not like all the others I have seen or is this just from die wear? The bowtie doesn't show the bottom part of the tie and as you can see the bust doesn't have the strengthened lower throat. I do know that the reverse is RDV-002 but not sure if its RDV_008 due to circulation wear. I do have the re-engraved die in the 1971 P and they look identical. Insight needed please!

IMO the lack of detail in the tie and bust are the result of Grease Filled Die. I see nothing with the reverse.

Polished the dies a bit heavy I would guess.

Grease filled or overpolished die.

Over polished die. The difference? If it were a Struck Through Grease issue, then the tops of the devices would be missing. (in this case the top of the bow tie) The bottom is the part that missing of the device.

This happens because the fields were reduced from polishing. Thus they look removed. If it were a Struck Through Grease issue, the devices would be wider and be missing at the tops of the devices because of the die fill.

So the OPs coin was altered by the fields being reduced. Not a struck through die filled with grease.

I agree that it's an over polished die. You can see the weakness of the bowtie from the die polishing.

Thanks everyone! I thought initially that the culprit was a worn die. When you don't know, ask the experts!
