2012 D Shield Penny Die Chips Possibly

So this is a 2012 penny I found the other day. I wish my camera focused a little better but you can still clearly see around the upper rim on both sides what appears to be chunks missing but still inside of the rim.its specifically noticable above United and states on the reverse and above trust on the obverse. I'm still extremely green to coin collecting so if somebody could just explain to me exactly what this is. Thank you

Doctor, I see another case of what appears to be the early stages of zinc rot, spend it before we need to amputate.
