These 2 rare class J Follis of Alexius I Comenenus are from the same seller who offered to sell me the Philip and Tyche coin. As these two pieces are rare, could this be a forgery though? I am starting to be super skeptical of the "desert" patina. Any help would be appreciated!! I have another three byzantine coins I would like to post but those will be posted in another topic! Thanks again!

Two very nice scarce examples, don't see many of these. I would love to find one for my collection. Congrats.

Thank you for your reply, Echizento.
So no signs of that applied" desert patina? They are from the same jeweller who is offering to sell me the coins that are shown in my recent posts.

I am note sure what you quite mean.. so the 2nd coin shows more signs of an applied desert patina than the 1st?
Does this ruin the value and integrity of the coin? Is there any way to reverse this application or there are no signs?
Apologies for the inconvenience and thanks again for your input!

On the second whatever was there most of it has been rubbed off with what looks like a little left around the cross area. If you wash the coins with mild soak and warm water if the patina is fake it should was off. Real sand patina would remain. IMO other than cleaning the coin which most have been, anything to alter the appearance such as adding a fake patina or tooling takes away from the value. In the case of the sand patina that we have been seeing more often it will usually wash off.
