Hi everybody.
I have been looking through my 1981 20c coins and found this one. Having no experience with them before I thought perhaps somebody here could help.
I am not sure if this is a Canadian Mint 3.5 claws or a London Mint 4 claws.

Thanks
Luke

Hi Luke and oh, welcome to the Forum, I forgot to add that in the other post.

From the image you posted, it looks as though the first claw is a half claw. The coin is well worn so it could be the UK Mint false three and a half claws. You need to tilt the coin from side to side under a magnifier and see if you can detect the claw tapering up or if it actually does stop half way.

To confirm it is from the RCM you need to also check the obverse of the coin. On worn RCM Platypus 20c the lower hair curls at back of neck appear weak and blend into the surrounding field. The RM and RAM coins seem to have a support line to the edge of the curls and they do not wear the same. There are also other features on both sides but it is difficult to see them the more the coin is worn.

PM me with your email address if you would like me to send you some images.

Hi Wayne.
Sorry I can't PM you as the system says I haven't enough posts yet.
Photos would be great, so if you wouldn't mind could you perhaps PM me first so I can simply reply straight to your E-mail with my address?

Sorry to be a pain

Thanks
Luke

G'day, Luke and Wayne.
Ive been collecting these 3,1/2 claws for some time and Ive also noticed the bases of the letters on the obverse side are also curved only this coin and not the 4 claws.

Yes,
The genuine 3-1/2 claw coin should show fishtailing to the obverse legends, whereas a diefilled coin will have flat based lettering. It should be obvious on the E and L, as well as the I, T and B.
