1916 P Buffalo Nickel No F And 2 Feather Variety

roach Valued Member United States 364 Posts	Posted 03/28/2018 7:43 pm Hi all! I recently came upon this 1916 P Buffalo nickel. Only two feathers and No F initial. I can't find much info on the variety with both features. What limited info I did find suggested that there are several no F dies that have 3 feather, and several 2 feather dies that have an F but only one that has both features? I can't comment on the missing letter, as most of the coins I've seen are worn if the "f" is missing. Your missing feather looks legit at first glance but I haven't applied photographic forensics either. Check the CherryPickers Guide, I know it is in there, my copy is lent out so I can't help. Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 03/29/2018 1:32 pm The missing feather simply due to die polishing, it gets polished away on several different years. The missing designers initial is because the letter F simply got shipped off the die. Normally the letter is incuse on the coins which means on the die it's a freestanding raised F. It is in a depression in the die which helps to protect it but it can still get chipped off. Report this Post to the Staff

I bring this issue up only because possibly someone was trying to create a one-of-a-kind discovery w/r/t this 'new' variety etc. Report this Post to the Staff
