This is one of my latest "grab bag" acquisitions. How would you grade it? Would you soak it in acetone, leave it as is, or......?

DON'T SOAK IT!! It's beautiful just the way it is. It looks MS64 with full-split bands from the pictures. In hand it may show some trace wear or loss of mint luster. I could only be sure with a 10x inspection.

Too many well-intended folks have destroyed the original finish on their silver coins by dipping them. An unmolested example usually earns a significant premium from those who know and appreciate the rarity of those examples.

Nice find!

SeatedNut,

These are 10X pics taken with my QX5. I had it out looking through the 10 1942s I also got.....no 42/1 I'll take some camera pics soon. Thanks for the advice!

I gave it a rough grade of MS 62 initialy, hard for me to judge when these get up that high.

Soaking a coin in acetone is not the same thing as dipping a coin, aka a dunk in E-Z-Est(which contains 5% thiourea and 2% sulfuric acid). Acetone will not touch the metal so it will probably not do a thing to this coin since it just looks like it has original dark tone.
