Looking in my Red Book of US coins in the Post Colonial Issues section, I see there were Genuine, Imitation and Machin's Mills Great Britain Copper coins for this design in general.
I am leaning strongly to believe I have an Imitation British Half Penny here.
It is on a rough planchet and it looks cast but I don't think it is. I just think it is either a die issue or environmental damage.
The coin itself looks much more brown than this picture came out. The color looks typical in hand.
The date drove me crazy but I have decided after serious looking at it that it has the "roof" of the 5 for the last number.
I have a small collection of various British Coppers and am trying to properly label my holders.

Thank you.

Certainly looks "non-regal" to me. The usual biggest clues come from the diameter and weight as the aim of the contemporary forgers was to save on copper. Should be around 10g and 28-29mm to be Regal. Non-regal would be around 7 or 8g and 25 to 27mm.
The design does not look tidy enough to be Regal either, and the date being half off the edge is also not right.
It is not an evasion though as the design is close enough to the official issues, so probably a contemporary forgery (non-Regal) halfpenny. The maker would have been hung if he was found out in Britain!

This looks to be a non-regal, cast copy of a George III half penny from the period. Since counterfeits tend to be back-dated it was probably made some years later than the date it shows. Not an evasion this coin mimics regal copper. It does not appear to be from Machin Mill. This leaves many dozens of other undocumented sources it may have originated from. Clement Schettino did a study of these by design and grouped them into about 35 categories. He issued a DVD with images which could tell you if this is a known type, or something not seen before. There may be a small collector base for the more exotic, and best documented contemporary counterfeits. Good luck with further attribution.
