Where can I find specific info on IHC die rotation, which dates if any are known to have it, etc. Is there a single best book on IHCs?

Rick Snow is pretty much THE authority on IHCs and he has a few books- one is a year by year study RedBook series book and the others are multi-volume attribution guides http://www.indiancent.com/

I have most of the guides, and I seem to recall something written on rotation for specific years.
His RedBook on IHCs is pretty basic--you won't find details there.
What year is your IHC and how much is it rotated?

It is an 1864 copper nickel, rotated clockwise I think.

I orient the coin with the top obverse at 12 0'clock, flip it, the the top of the reverse is at 2 o'clock instead of 12. Does this make sense?

So the obverse is at 2:00 in relation to the reverse? That's about a 60 degree rotation, which is nice.
I don't know values here as I don't see many for sale.

I googled 1864 die rotation and found a brief chart listing many types of coins and rotation with a rarity rating. The 1864 is listed, that's all I have found so far. I got the coin ( cherry picked it ) not knowing much about it except for the rotation and overall great appearance. When I got it home the first thing I did was weigh it, 4.67 grams. Crap! I thought to myself. Then I looked at coinfacts, found the 1864 cu-ni, 4.67 grams, and felt a lot better.

I'll get the Snow books one at a time.

I can't say this enough, you guys and gals are great! Thanks for the help.

So, die rotation is generally a good thing?

Definitely--it only adds to value and collector interest. 60 degrees is pretty significant.
As a bit of an update, I see there's an 1864 proof IHC with a 20 deg. CCW rotation. It occurs in about 25% of proofs.

how do I identify a proof IHC? I does look like a great strike, I know you all like pics, I'm kinda reluctant to put time into a camera ( I work IT, the last thing I want to see when I get home is another IT project ) I'll give the camera thing an honest effort.

Anyway, the coin looks excellent, MS 64 or higher if not for a very minor nick in the cheek. The color is kinda light, I've read this is normal for copper nickel.
