my 1791 Large Eagle cent has united states of America on the edge, but United States is readable when coin is heads up, and Of America is upside down (readable when reverse side is up) is this usual? thanks.

Unusual, I really don't know. I haven't had a chance to examine that many of them. But I can explain why it happens the edges are lettered by running the planchets between two dies each of which contain one half of the inscription. In the case of this coin, one of the dies was mounted in the machine upside down. This has been known to occur on other Conder tokens.
