looks like the zinc rot dots are forming - so only copper plated and 2.48 is probably within tolerance

Thanks for the reply goodman..but still I'm confuse..I tried every zinc penny I have even the closest one with the rot like dot youve mentioned still this is the only cent that has exact ring sound like other copper penny.

1983 LMC should weigh 2.5g. They are not copper however. They are copper plated.

A ring test is not the most scientific method, too many variables to affect the sound. Based on the weight provided, and the picture, you've got a normal zinc-ky.

Specifications for Copper:
Metal Composition: 95% Copper - 5% Tin and Zinc
Diameter: 19 mm
Mass / Weight: 3.11 grams

Specifications for Zinc:
Metal Composition: 97.5% Zinc - 2.5% Copper after 1982
Diameter: 19 mm
Mass / Weight: 2.5 grams

There were some mistakes made on Planchets and I believe it would be best to weigh it and if it weighs 3.2 grams instead of 2.7 it would be the wrong Planchet and may be valuable.

All 2.5 gram 1983 cents are copper plated zinc. No exceptions.
