i notice that the column does not appear to be completely straight the area in question seems to have pushed into the column design?

It looks as if the area you're pointing to may be a plating issue.

yes at first glance I would agree, but it is definetely not a "bubble" it is very solid.
I suppose it could be something under the plating but definetely solid........

I've seen this before. It's likely a remnant of a die clash the mint employees couldn't get rid of or just didn't notice.
