This is one of quite a few coins that were recently passed to us from a relative. I am a total newcomer and would appreciate any feedback on the grade of this coin.

to the CCF! Your coin doesn't look to be in the greatest of shape. (although I'm absolutely awful at grading gold, so consider that before reading on) My quick guesstimate of grade is XF40.

Has alot of detail on the devices in the XF range but lack of any luster tells me a previously cleaned coin. Value? Others will chime in on that.

Thanks for your replies. I really appreciate the insight. First step in a long process of trying to understand what's all included in this collection.

XF details, cleaned. Even though it's cleaned, any Indian gold eagle is still worth a lot.

Matt~! Yes, it has some wear and shows signs of a cleaning. I would guess retail price....... around $700. Sorry for your loss.

It does look XF. As a circulated common date it is a melt value piece plus a very small premium because it is a genuine U.S. $10 gold piece. Current melt value is $645 USD and you could add 5% to that number when valuing it for a collection.

EF-40. Lots of dirt on the surfaces so not so sure it has been cleaned.
