Peace Dollars With A Different Finish

These coins have a different finish than my other shiny Peace dollars. Light still reflects off of them, but it's very muted. Does anyone have an idea if Peace dollars were made with different finishes, and if so, why?

Those are normal Peace dollars. They are darker than the shiny ones because they have toned.

Toning is a polite word for tarnish, the same thing that happens to grandma's silver dinner set.

That coin has been cleaned and/or suffers from environmental damage. Unlike grandma's silverware set, the mint luster on that coin is gone and never coming back.

I believe the additional photos below illustrate the type of toning you mentioned. My coins are not nearly as shiny, and they seem to have a gritty looking tone, but Your explanation makes sense.
