The problem with the filled mint marks are the post that forms the center of the Mint mark has broken off the die. Thus leaving a void on the die in that area. That void now does not get the opening in the center, thus called a filled mint mark. More correct is the term broken post. These have no premium for them, and often are used a die markers for a die stage.

I have seen a lot of fills and used to think they were exciting until I saw how many of them I found :P Now I know better! I am curious, although I know no added value either... Is this an over polished mink mark? I call it the "thin mint" haha

I saw that Cud below the 9 on the first one and found that interesting then @tanman2001 with this: Quote:1959-D/D/D RPM-001, it's listed in the cherrypicker's guide! http://www.varietyvista.com/02b%20L...9DRPM001.htm For further verification it would be nice to see the reverse. Awesome info as usual @coop and @Eye4Error (I have an ATB Quarter somewhere with a missing P that is just about completely invisible and every thing else on the obverse including the date has far strike -- AU coin -- so I though just grease filled - but unusual). I will need to find it where ever it went. Thanks for sharing Hwy14

Quote: Is this an over polished mink mark? I call it the "thin mint" haha I don't think so as no other devices are affected around it. It may have been weakly punched into the die (done by hand back then). I like "thin mint."

Haha Frankencoin... Totally thinking back to some of the things I encounter in my rolls first time looking through them, that now I have to go back and search for again! Only keep my early coppers around though, already cashed in more current dates... just to get more coins to go through. LOL Wish I had kept a few, now that I am understanding more about what to look for... Oh well... there's always more pennies!

Hwy14 posted new Topic for possible 1959 D/D/D here: http://goccf.com/t/316180@tanman2001 Quote:That first pic is a RPM. And a good one too! 1959-D/D/D RPM-001, it's listed in the cherrypicker's guide! http://www.varietyvista.com/02b%20L...9DRPM001.htm As I recall the reverse on the link above sadly I just do not see it and that is a well hammered coin on the reverse. Yes @Eye4Error the mint runs out some crazy stuff sometimes and sometimes things are discovered many years later. You never know and there are only so many things you can track over time as memory and index of knowledge and experience grows. I call coin collecting a hobby and a passion, interesting and fun.
