Spence Moderator United States 34424 Posts	Posted 04/15/2018 5:49 pm @cads, it looks to me like the copper plating has peeled off of the mintmark, exposing the zinc core underneath. As you know, this metal is much more reactive with the environment and will corrode pretty quickly. I don't think that this is an error at all.
